Description	:	Elmer F. Riefers, 77, of Napoleon, Ohio died unexpectedly on Sunday, January 8, 2017. He was born February 21, 1939 in Freedom Twp. to the late Ferdinand H. and Hilda M. (Biederstedt) Riefers. On May 7, 1960, he married Linda Kryder at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Napoleon, Ohio. Elmer attended St. John Lutheran Elementary school and graduated from Ridgeville High School in 1957. He began farming with his father after he graduated high school and also worked at Campbell Soup Company, Napoleon and then Dresser Tools, Defiance. He was born February 21, 1939 in Freedom Twp. to the late Ferdinand H. and Hilda M. (Biederstedt) Riefers. On May 7, 1960, he married Linda Kryder at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Napoleon, Ohio. Elmer attended St. John Lutheran Elementary school and graduated from Ridgeville High School in 1957. He began farming with his father after he graduated high school and also worked at Campbell Soup Company, Napoleon and then Dresser Tools, Defiance. He finally was able to follow his true passion and became a full-time farmer in 1975. He also worked part-time for Behrman Burial Vaults, Ridgeville Corners. He was a Freedom Twp. Trustee and served on the ASCS Board. Elmer was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church, Freedom Twp., where he served as a former deacon and trustee. He was also a member of 4-H, FFA, and the Ohio Farmers Union. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He is survived by his wife, Linda, children, Robert (Karen) Riefers of Napoleon, Kathryn (Ed) Gobrogge of McClure, and Thomas Riefers of Napoleon, grandchildren, Eric (Kayleigh) Riefers, Kevin Riefers, Lee (Traci) Gobrogge, Amy (Ryan) Williams, Brandon Riefers, and Alexis Riefers. Great grandchildren, Brice Baumert, Raiden and Belyn Riefers, and a sister, Marilyn Meyer. He was preceded in death by an infant son, John Riefers, a brother, Walter Riefers and sister, Arlene Riefers. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2017, 1 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, Freedom Twp. with burial following at the church cemetery.
