Description	:	Elmer L. Banks, 76, 1100 North Thirteenth Street, died yesterday evening at the Veterans hospital, Topeka, after a lengthy illness. Born in Beattie, Kas., Nov. 24, 1896, he was the son of A. Lincoln and Alice Mercer Banks. He attended the Banks school, Whiting, and the Whiting High school. In 1918, he enlisted in the Navy and served during World War I. He was aboard ship when the Armistice was signed, and served aboard a ship off the coasts of France and Wales and in the English Channel before returning home aboard the USS Hilton one year later. He and Lulu... Read More	Elmer L. Banks, 76, 1100 North Thirteenth Street, died yesterday evening at the Veterans hospital, Topeka, after a lengthy illness. Born in Beattie, Kas., Nov. 24, 1896, he was the son of A. Lincoln and Alice Mercer Banks. He attended the Banks school, Whiting, and the Whiting High school. In 1918, he enlisted in the Navy and served during World War I. He was aboard ship when the Armistice was signed, and served aboard a ship off the coasts of France and Wales and in the English Channel before returning home aboard the USS Hilton one year later. He and Lulu Handke of Atchison were married Sept. 15, 1920. He worked at the express office for the Missouri Pacific Railroad until 1926, when he and Mrs. Banks moved to a farm near Whiting. They returned to Atchison in 1942 and Mr. Banks worked as an electrician at the LFM for a number of years. After that, he worked at the YMCA until his retirement in 1961. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran church, VFW Post 1175 and World War I Barracks. Surviving are his wife of the home; one daughter, Mrs. John (Helen) Felps; one sister, Mrs. Bessie Dexter; one brother, Charles Banks; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran church with the Rev. Robert Ziegler officiating. Burial will be in Mount Vernon cemetery with graveside services by American Legion Fleming - Jackson - Seever Post No. 6. The Atchison Daily Globe, Atchison, Kansas Tuesday, October 16, 1973
