Description	:	Emelia Greco was one of the First Generation Italians of Oelwein, Iowa. Emelia (DeDeco) Greco was born in Bonifati, Cosenza, Italy on March 20, 1898. She married Pasquale Saverio (Peter) Greco in Italy in 1919, where he had returned to serve in the Italian army in World War I. He returned to the U.S. in 1920. Emelia joined him in Oelwein, Iowa after arriving on the S.S. Cretic on August 12, 1921 with her sister, Julia and her mother-in-law Chiara Esposito Greco. She was known for storytelling and children from around the neighborhood would gather to listen to Italian lore and other wonderful stories. She baked bread with her husband (using 50 lbs. of flour at a time) in a brick oven. She canned many peppers and tomatoes from the huge garden her husband kept. She was a homemaker, a loving mother and wife; a wise, kind and generous lady.
