Nelson, 80, RFD 1, Stratford, died Monday at the Boone County Hospital of injuries suffered in an automobile-cornpicker accident which occurred near Boone. The mishap, in which Mrs. Nelson was reported injured, occurred Friday evening on the Division St. road several miles north of Boone, where the Nelson car ran into the rear of a cornpicker. Mrs. Nelson was listed in fair condition at the Boone hospital. The Boone County sheriff's office reported that the cornpicker equipment hit by the Nelson car was driven by Walter Smalley, RFD 4, Boone, who was not injured in the accident. Funeral services for Mr. Nelson will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the South Marion Methodist Church south of Stratford. A prayer service for the immediate family will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the Hanson Funeral Home in Stratford. The Rev. George Brighton will officiate and burial will be in the South Marion Cemetery. Mr. Nelson is survived by his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Verlyn (Adelene) Fry of Stratford, and Mrs. Clarence (Hazelle) Murken of Boone, and one son, Dr. Robert Nelson of Boulder, Colo. Mr. Nelson was a lifelong resident of the Stratford community, and although he had retired from farming he still resided on his farm south of Stratford. He was a member of the South Marion Methodist Church. Dayton Review November 12, 1964 Obituary of Emil G. Nelson Emil George Nelson, son of Olaf and Johanna Nelson, was born at Stratford, Iowa on June 14, 1884 and died in the Boone County Hospital on November 2, 1964 at the age of 80 years, 4 months and 18 days. His sudden death resulted from a traffic accident which occurred on October 30, 1964. He was baptized and confirmed in the Swede Bend Mission Church. In the year 1911 he was united in marriage to Laura E. Stromert. He later joined the South Marion Methodist Church. He spent his entire life in the Stratford community, continuing to live here after his retirement from farming. He leaves to mourn his departure his wife Laura, a son Robert D. of Boulder, Colorado; two daughters, Mrs. Verlyn Fry (Adelene) of rural Stratford, and Mrs. Clarence Murken (Hazelle) of Boone. Also 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and a host of friends. Services were held Thursday afternoon at the South Marion Methodist Church at 2 p.m. with burial in South Marion Cemetery. Rev. George Brighton officiated. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Erickson sang two songs and pallbearers were Edgar Crim, Charles Crim, Merrill Monson, Lester Johnson and Norman Nelson.
