Mr. Nelson is survived by his wife; two daughters, Edna Sealine of Stanhope, and Mrs. Verna Anderson of Stratford; a son, Norman Nelson, of Stratford, and several grandchildren. Mr. Nelson was a member of the South Marion church. He was engaged in farming for many years, before retiring and moving into Stratford. He helped organize the Farmers Elevator and was president of the board for many years. He served as a board member until recently. Mr. Nelson was a former trustee and actively interested in politics. A generous, neighborly man, Mr. Nelson will be greatly missed, not only by his immediate family but by the many acquaintances he made during his long residence in this community. Nelson Edward Lewis Nelson, son of Olof and Johanna Nelson, was born in Des Moines, Iowa, December 13, 1879 and passed away from this life Nov. 24, 1948, at the age of 69 years, 11 months and 11 days. In 1880 he came with his parents to Hamilton county, locating on a farm south of Stratford, where he lived until 1943, when he moved to Stratford. He was united in marriage to Ellen Peterson on August 25, 1903, and to this union was born two daughters and one son. He was baptized in infancy and confirmed in the Mission church. Later he united with the Methodist church at South Marion on Feb. 17, 1907, and was a faithfu member of that church. He was a member of the official board of the Methodist church for about 35 years. He was elected to many committees such as "Buildings and Repair," also the remodeling committee. He has well earned the rewards. "Well done good and faithful servant. Thou hast been faithful over a few things. I will make thee ruler over many things, enter thou into the Joy of thy Lord." Mr. Nelson helped to organize the Farmers elevator at Stratford and he served as president of that board for 34 years. He also served as township trustee for many years. Mr. Nelson was a kind and loving husband, faithful in all his duties, a man well liked for his helpful service, advice, and friendly attitude to everyone. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He leaves to mourn his loss his bereaved wife, and three children, Mrs. Edna Sealine, Mrs. Verna Anderson, and Norman Nelson; 13 grandchildren and two brothers, Charles W. Nelson and Emil G. Nelson, as well as a host of friends and neighbors. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Peter and Albert Nelson, one sister, Nellie, one granddaughter, Mary Louise Anderson. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, Nov. 27, 1948, in the home at 1:30 o'clock and in the South Marion church at 2 o'clock conducted by the Rev. A.G. Heddlel. Singers were Mrs. Will Holstrom and Mrs. Roy Bergquist accompanied by Miss Elsie Swedlund. Burial was made at South Marion cemetery with E.A. Crim, Kenneth Carlson, Lester R. Johnson, F.A. Patterson, Merrill Monson and B.E. Patterson as pallbearers. Dear dad you have gone and left us In this world of grief and pain But by faith, hope and patience In heaven we will meet again.
