Nelson were held Tuesday, August 30, at 2:30 p.m., at the South Marion Methodist church near Stratford with the Rev. A.G. Heddle in charge. Vocal numbers were sang by Mr. and Mrs. Will Holstrum and Mr. and Mrs. Ray Bergquist, accompanied by Miss Elsie Swedlund. Pallbearers were Fred Patterson, Edgar Crim, B.E. Life Sketch Charles William Nelson, son of Olaf and Johanna Nelson was born at Des Moines, September 30, 1876, and passed away at the Boone county hospital August 28, 1949, at the age of 72 years, 10 months and 28 days. His sudden death, resulting from an accident at the farm of his son, Harold, came as a shock to his family and friends. When but a child, he moved to this community from Des Moines with his parents and spent the greater part of his life here in farming and carpenter work. He will be remembered by all as a loving husband and father and for his generous nature and helpfulness toward everyone. In his youth he was baptized and confirmed in the Swede Bend Mission church. He was united in marriage in the year 1898 to Anna Lingwall and to this union was born five sons and two daughters. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Anna; two infant sons; three brothers, Peter, Albert, and Edward, and one sister, Nellie. In the year 1916 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Gertrude Baker, and to this union one daughter, Olive, was born. He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, Gertrude; his sons, Leonard of Lehigh, George of Dayton and Harold of Boone; three daughters, Mrs. Edith Howe of Williams, Mrs. Lillian Davis of Jewell and Mrs. Olive McVicker of Inspiration, Ariz.; two step-children, Mrs. Opal Monson of Stratford and Andrew Baker of Ogden; a brother, Emil of Stratford; 25 grandchildren, three great grandchildren and other relatives and a host of friends.
