She was the daughter of Carl and Augusta Guse Krueger. She died on Tuesday, January 7, 2003 at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa. Emma was born and raised on a farm near Bigelow, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Worthington, Minnesota. She received her high school education at Worthington, Minnesota. She later attended Iowa State Teacher's College and taught school for several years in Osceola and later in Ute, Iowa and various schools in Crawford County. In 1948, Emma was united in marriage to Alvin Hargens of Charter Oak, Iowa. Together they made their home on a farm near Charter Oak. Later they moved to Ricketts, Iowa. Her husband, Alvin passed away in 1980 and Emma remained in Ricketts until health reasons moved her to Eventide Lutheran Home in 1998. She remained there until her death. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin in 1980, her parents and by four brothers and four sisters. At the time of her death, she was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hanover Township, Charter Oak. She also was a member of St. Paul's Ladies Aid. Emma leaves to mourn four sisters-in-law, Eva Hargens of Denison; Elonore Meggers of Charter Oak; Esther Turner and her husband, Belton of Sun City, Arizona; Dena Nemitz of Denison; also several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 10, 2003 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hanover Township, Charter Oak, Iowa. Rev. Eugene Ernst officiated the service and grave side rites held at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Hanover Township, Charter Oak. Organist Shirley Stull provided the organ accompaniment for the congregational hymns "How Great Thou Art", "I Know That My Redeemer Lives", and "My Faith Looks Up to Thee". Those serving as honorary pallbearers were the St. Paul's Ladies Aid. Those serving as pallbearers were: Michael Hargens, Edgar Glockzien, Raymond Loeck, Kenneth Martin, Vernon Jepsen, Kenneth Baak, and Richard Knop. The family invited everyone in attendance to join them in fellowship and lunch served by the Ladies Aid.
