He was married in Sweden in 1871 to Martha Nelson Bergman. Three children were born to their union - one daughter, who died when six years old shortly after her parents arrival in America, and two sons, Nels of this place and George of Des Moines. He was married in Sweden in 1871 to Martha Nelson Bergman. Three children were born to their union - one daughter, who died when six years old shortly after her parents arrival in America, and two sons, Nels of this place and George of Des Moines. He with his family came here from Sweden on April 1, 1890 and located on a farm northwest of Stratford residing there two years when they moved to Stratford. Sixteen years ago they purchased the little place on the northwest edge of Stratford which has since been their home. Deceased was a familiar figure on our streets and was one of those jolly, good-natured men whom it was a pleasure to know and to meet. His sudden passing came as a shock to everyone though a few days preceding his death he had complained of pains in the region of his heart. He had reached the age of very nearly four score years. Besides his aged wife, who is heartbroken over his sudden taking away, and his two sons, he leaves to mourn his passing several grandchildren and a host of friends and acquaintances. Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at 1 o'clock from the family home in charge of Rev. J.A. Nordstrom and the remains laid to rest in the South Marion cemetery.
