Description	:	Ervy Leroy Osburn was born on February 16, 1916 on the Osburn Homestead three miles south of Sparks, NE. Ervy was the first child of Everett (Tin) and Alma (Haley) Osburn. Ervy attended the Green School south of Sparks through the 8th grade. While growing up Ervy developed a love for baseball that stayed with him for his entire life. Read More	Ervy Leroy Osburn was born on February 16, 1916 on the Osburn Homestead three miles south of Sparks, NE. Ervy was the first child of Everett (Tin) and Alma (Haley) Osburn. Ervy attended the Green School south of Sparks through the 8th grade. While growing up Ervy developed a love for baseball that stayed with him for his entire life. He was especially proud of being a part of the Haley Grandsons Baseball team. He also was called upon hundred of times to umpire games in the area. On August 10, 1934 he married Gladys May Brueklander in Valentine. To this union four children were born: Darlene, Merlin, Jim and Bill. Ervy and Gladys farmed in the area while raising their children in the community. In 1952 they moved to Valentine where Ervy worked at Chicoine Motors, Ford Motor Company, Spelts Lumber and for a number of years for the State Department of Roads. He opened his own small engine repair shop on North Ray Street in Valentine and operated this for several more years. Ervy enjoyed going to baseball games, bowling, deer and grouse hunting with his friends, sons and grandsons. Ervy married Mildred (Smith) Johnson in October of1971. Together they shared their live of music. Ervy playing the banjo, violin, and most of all the saxophone. In 1979 they moved to the Oceola, MO area where they lived until they returned to Valentine in 1999. While in Missouri they continued to enjoy their music by playing at dances and sharing music with friends. Ervy passed away on September 13, 2005 at Pine View Good Samaritan Center in Valentine. Ervy was preceded in death by his parents Everett and Alma Osburn, infant son Robert Leroy, wife Gladys Mary, sister Zina Turner, sons Jim and Bill Osburn and grand-daughter Lean (sic) Marie Burge. Survivors include: wife Mildred of Valentine, son Merlin (Phyllis) Osburn of Center, TX, daughter Darlene (Bill) Burge of Valentine, daughter-in-law Mary Belle Osburn of Valentine, brothers Richard (Yuki) of Vacaville, CA, Melvin (Edna) of Arizona, sister Shirley (Johnny) Hahn of Oceala, NE, Step-son Stanley Johnson of Valentine, Letha Osburn of Cairo, NE and Betty Hansel of Lincoln. Ervy is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren. Also numerous nieces and nephews. Services were held on September 17, 2005 at Sandoz Chapel of the Pines in Valentine with Reverend Bert Townely officiating. Pallbearers included grandsons: Jay Dee Osburn, Mitch Osburn, Randy Graeff, Rusty, Randy and Mike Burge, Dale and Junior Kalenda, Tony, Tim and Terry McCawley. Burial followed at Mount Hope Cemetery in Valentine alongside his parents and Gladys. To continue Ervy's passion for baseball, a memorial fund has been established to the Valentine Post 90 American Legion Baseball program.
