Description	:	Esther Loraine (Jans) Heitman, 84 of rural Crete, went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, June 11, 2013. Esther was born on April 2, 1929 on a farmstead southeast of Crete to Henry C. and Clara (Henning) Jans, the youngest of four children. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church, Kramer. She attended St. John's Parochial School, graduated from Crete High School and completed coursework at Doane College. She married William D. (Bill) Heitman on June 13, 1948. Esther and Bill were blessed with two children, Linda S. (Heitman) Papik and James W. Heitman. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church, Kramer. She attended St. John's Parochial School, graduated from Crete High School and completed coursework at Doane College. She married William D. (Bill) Heitman on June 13, 1948. Esther and Bill were blessed with two children, Linda S. (Heitman) Papik and James W. Heitman. Esther spent her entire working career as a secretary/ administrative assistant at Sack Lumber, Fairmont foods, the Crete Mills and for 39 years, from 1955 until her retirement in 1994, at Doane College. During her lifetime she was a devoted member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and very active in clubs, organizations and the community. She also spent many hours volunteering at her church, Doane College and the Crete hospital. She was a member of the Crete Area Medical Center Foundation Board of Directors for 10 years. In 1996, Esther and Bill were joint recipients of the Crete Sertoma Service to Mankind award. She enjoyed traveling, playing bridge and cheering on her kids, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as they participated in their many sporting events and other activities. Preceded in death by her parents; husband Bill Heitman; son-in-law David Papik; brother Orval Jans; sisters Viola (Mrs. William) Meinke and Adeline (Mrs. Carl) Meinke; nephew Mervin Meinke and niece Norma (Meinke) Malone. She is survived by her children, Linda Papik, Crete, James and Marilyn Heitman, Wilber; grandchildren Jeff Papik, Crete, Brady and April Papik, Lincoln, Kara and Roger Burda, Wilber, Kayla and Ted Younker, Lincoln and Laura and Kellen Novak, Crete; step-grandchildren, Lisa and Mike Gocke, Stromsburg, Jamie and David Johansen, Waverly and T.J. and Holli Artz, Lincoln; great-grandchildren, Quade Potter, Kohen Burda, Hunter Papik, Anden Papik, and Hayes Novak; step-great-grandchildren, Paige Zamora, Reid Houchin, Jaxon and Hannah Johansen, Kaden and Ryker Artz. Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 15 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Crete. Interment was at Kramer Lutheran Cemetery, Kramer. Memorials to the family for future designation.
