Huckins, daughter of Charles and Friedericka Sutter, was born near Byron, Nebr., on July 24, 1887, and passed away at the Belleville Long Term-Center in Belleville, Ks., on May 21, 1974 at the age of 86 years, 9 months and 27 days. After the death of her mother, Esther was adopted by Jacob and Cordelia Mitchell when she was three months old. Huckins, daughter of Charles and Friedericka Sutter, was born near Byron, Nebr., on July 24, 1887, and passed away at the Belleville Long Term-Center in Belleville, Ks., on May 21, 1974 at the age of 86 years, 9 months and 27 days. After the death of her mother, Esther was adopted by Jacob and Cordelia Mitchell when she was three months old. She attended Excelsior School south of Chester, and after graduating there she taught piano, driving to the homes of her pupils. Esther was married to William Oliver Huckins on Nov. 30, 1904, and five children came to bless this union, Guila, Gerald, Doyle (sic), Willis and Shirley. Esther lived in the Chester area all of her life until it became necessary, because of poor health, for her to move to Belleville. Esther joined the Chester United Methodist Church in 1924 and transferred her membership to the United Methodist Church in Belleville in October 1965. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chester Chapter No. 289, the Rebekah Lodge, the Womens Society of Christian Service, and was active until two years ago. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; daughter, Guila; two sons, Doyle and Willis; four sisters, Mary, Maude, Anne and Grace; and one brother, Laurence. Survivors are her son, Gerald and wife Mildred of Chester; daughter, Shirley and husband Verne of Peabody, Ks.; grandchildren, Richard George of Chester, Sharyn White of Norwalk, Ia., Koni Kay and Denise Krause of Peabody, Kans.; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Lewis of Huron, So. Dak. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, May 25, at the Chester United Methodist Church, conducted by Revs. Opal and Norman Crounse. Mrs. Jack Long and Mrs. Maurice Mitchell sang, accompanied by Mrs. Dolan Frye, organist. Casket bearers were Dean Russell, Kenneth Adamson, Leslie Hartley, Art Wendling, Eli Jewell, Jean Thompson. Interment was in the Chester Cemetery, the Bachelor-Faulkner-Dart Funeral Service in charge of arrangements.
