Rockville, Md., March 17 (AP). - A coroner's verdict of suicide was rendered here today in the death of Eugene W. Cissel. Cissel was found by his wife in their home yesterday with a bullet would in his forehead. She called a doctor who pronounced him dead. Cissel was 40 years old yesterday. Eugene Cissel, 40 years old, member of a prominent Montogmery county family, Monday night shot and killed himself at his home in Rockville. A certificate of suicide was issued by Dr. G.V. Hartley after a consultation with State's Attorney Stedman Prescott and Policeman Harry Merson, who investigated the death. Mr. Cissel had been dispondent for more than a year, friends said, and his wife had taken unusual precautions to prevent his shooting himself while in a fit of despondency. She had removed the magazine from his pistol but the fatal bullet in the chamber had been overlooked. The husband had gone into his room to dress and his wife was in the bedroom next to his when she heard a shot. She ran into the room and saw Mr. Cissel stretched out, half clad, on the bed with blood streaming from a bullet wound in his forehead. She called neighbors who summoned Dr. Harley and Policeman Merson. Mr. Cissel had held the pistol in his right hand and pointed it at the center of his forehead. He is believed to have died almost instantly. Dr. Hartley issued a certificate of death by suicide and then turned his attention to Mrs. Cissel who was hysterical. Mr. Cissel was born near Darnestown, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Humphrey Cissel. His father served two terms as a member of the Montgomery County Commissioners, and the son later became a clerk in the office of the county commissioners at Rockville. He left nearly ten years ago to engage in the real estate business under the firm of Cissel and Offutt. Several years ago the firm dissolved partnership and he became an employee of the Maryland Title Co. Business worries are believed to have caused his despondency. He married Miss Cecil Tschiffely, daughter of Dr. Frederick Tschiffely, prominent Wshington druggist. He is survived by his widow, two sons, Humphrey and Eugene, Jr; a daughter, Miss Ruth Cissl; three brothers, Albert J Cissel, of Darnestown; Thomas Cissel and Humphrey Cissel, both of Washington, and two sisters, Mrs. Julian C Waters, of Germantown, and Mrs. John Williams, of Kensington. His oldest child is 12 years old.
