Description	:	Ferne Leona (Johnson) Amundson, 92, of Twin Falls, ID, died Monday, April 12, 2010, at her residence. She was born December 7, 1917, on the family farm west of Akron, Iowa. She attended Sayles Elementary School and later graduated from Akron High School in 1935. She attended college in Madison, SD, earning a teaching certificate. She then taught four years in rural schools in Union County, SD. She also did one year of substitute teaching. In 1940, she married Arnold M Amundson. Read More	Ferne Leona (Johnson) Amundson, 92, of Twin Falls, ID, died Monday, April 12, 2010, at her residence. She was born December 7, 1917, on the family farm west of Akron, Iowa. She attended Sayles Elementary School and later graduated from Akron High School in 1935. She attended college in Madison, SD, earning a teaching certificate. She then taught four years in rural schools in Union County, SD. She also did one year of substitute teaching. In 1940, she married Arnold M Amundson. They farmed in the vicinity and had their family there. In 1954, Ferne returned to teaching in the Westfield Iowa Consolidated School. In preparation, she had returned to school at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion. The family moved to California in 1956. There she continued her education and teaching. She received her B.A. degree from Whittier College at Whittier, California. Her teaching careeir in California was in the El Rancho Unified School District at Pico Rivera, where she taught for 20 years. She received her Life Diploma for teaching from the state of California. In 1976, she retired from teaching, and she and her husband did extensive traveling including visiting their relatives in their homeland of Norway. In 1981, they moved to Idaho to be hear family members. After her husband's death, she moved to Twin Falls. There she did volunteer work, sewing, crocheting, oil painting, and helping family whenever needed. She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, her daughters, Sylvia and Colleen; her sisters, Alpha, Gladys, and Mae; her brother, Carol. She leaves to mourn a son, Dennis; and a daughter, Nathalie; six grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Graveside service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Sunday, April 25, 2010 at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, rural Elk Point with Rev. Mary Feistner officiating.
