Description	:	Gladys O. Nygard, 90, of Akron died Sunday April 3, 1994 at Morningside Manor Nursing Home in Alcester, S.D., after a brief illness. Services were held Wednesday at St. Paul's Lutheran church, rural Elk Point, S.D. with Rev. Dan Heath officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mrs. Dorothy Maurstad was organist. Hymns sung were "Amazing Grace," and "How Great Thou Art." Casketbearers were Ray Wennblom, Harold Kleihauer, John Bouwman, Dennis Amundson, Steve Sigman, William Bowers, Gerald .Hitzemann, and Gayland Small. Mrs. Nygard was born Nov. 24, 1903, in Union county, S.D., the daughter of Oluf and Lena (Carlson) John. She attended Sayles rural school near Akron and graduated from Akron high school. She worked for Gassman Ford, in Akron for several years. She married Kenneth Nygard July 2, 1943, rural Alcester. While he was in the service she worked for Bank of America in California for two years, until they returned to Akron. She then worked for Moir Implement before returning to the home farm, to care for her parents and brother. In 1985 she moved into Akron and became a resident of Morningside Manor in 1990. One special occasion was her trip to Norway in 1978 to meet relatives. She was a member of the Adventures Travel club, and went on several tours. Mrs. Nygard was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran church; and the Senior Citizens club of Akron. Survivors include a sister, Ferne Amundson of Twin Falls, Idaho; three nieces, Sylvia Dunn and Nathalie Hunter, both of Jerome, Idaho, and Margaret Hartman of Alcester; two nephews, Dennis Amundson of Kimberly, Idaho, and Melvin Hitzemann of Akron. She was preceded in death by a brother, Carol; and two sisters, Alpha Hitzemann and Mae Rawlings.
