Florence Kathryn Kaufman was born at Plattsmouth November 6, 1909 to Henry Jacob and Julia (Warga) Kaufman. Raised and schooled at Plattsmouth, she graduated from Plattsmouth High School class of 1925. She married Michael "Mickey" Duda at Council Bluffs, Iowa February 7, 1926. STAVA, 87, of Plattsmouth, Nebraska, died at Plattsmouth Manor, Sunday February 16, 1997 following declining health. Florence Kathryn Kaufman was born at Plattsmouth November 6, 1909 to Henry Jacob and Julia (Warga) Kaufman. Raised and schooled at Plattsmouth, she graduated from Plattsmouth High School class of 1925. She married Michael "Mickey" Duda at Council Bluffs, Iowa February 7, 1926. After their marriage the couple made their home in Plattsmouth; together they had three daughters: Joan Ruth, Florene, and Shirley. Mr. Duda died a short 22 years later. Florence loved to dance and at one of the local Saturday night dance gatherings she met Edward F. Stava. They danced down the aisle in Douglas, Nebraska, June 30, 1950. After marrying Mr. Stava she lived in Douglas, Nebraska. Together they had one daughter and Ed had six, nearly adult children to finish raising. In 1956 following a job promotion Ed received she moved to Crete, Nebraska where the family lived for the next 40 years. She returned to Plattsmouth in 1996. Mrs. Stava worked as a nurse's aid at the Nebraska Masonic Home of Plattsmouth and St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha. Following her move to Crete she was employed by the Crete Municipal Hospital and as an insurance secretary for the local American Family agent. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Alter Society. She was an avid bowler, was a member of the Women's Bowling Association and bowled on three different women's teams three times a week. She bowled on Tuesday mornings and evenings in Crete and was the league secretary for many years; a member of the Friday women's league in Friend, and as years passed the senior citizens league in Crete. She attended many of the national tournaments and bowling association award dinners. Mrs. Stava loved to try new recipes and would surprise her family with some new concoction. Her favorite items to make were Jell-O salads, cakes and cookies. Spent many years hunting and fishing with her husband Ed and had some really special fish food delicacies that Ed used on the end of his fish hook. She never liked vegetable gardening, but she had a super green thumb for house plants and used them in abundance through out her home. Survivors include: daughters: Florene K. Smith, Plattsmouth; Shirley C. Brugman, Port Arthur, Texas; Judith L. and Robert Sparks, Crete; 13 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Step children: Martin and June Stava, Omaha; John and Sarah Stava, Bloomington, Indiana; Joe Stava, Orland, California; Mary Rose and Henry Dhooge, Wilber; Jean and Howard Bruner, Fort Collins, Colorado. She was preceded in death by: parents; daughter Joan Ruth Duda, July 18, 1940; first husband Michael Duda, January 9, 1948 at Offutt AFB Hospital following a serious motorcycle/automobile accident; second husband Edward Stava, August 15, 1963 at St. Louis, Missouri following complications during surgery. Graveside services will be held at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Plattsmouth, Tuesday, February 18, 11 a.m., Fr. Paul York officiating. Pallbearers will be Michael Brugman, Jerry Brugman, Greg Brugman, George Kalcik, Todd Kalcik, Troy Kalcik. Honorary pallbearers will be Kevin Vaughn, Ben Jones, Darrell Smith. Memorials will be the family's choice. Visitation will be at Roby Funeral Home of Plattsmouth, Monday February 17, from 1 to 9 p.m. with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m ******************************************************
