Frank's parents Henry Hurst and his wife Carolina Goetz were married on Nov. 16, 1869, in Franklin County Indiana (per: "Indiana Marriage Collection, 1800 - 1941"). Hurst was married to Mrs. Stella (Ketchum) Doty (the former wife of Budd Joseph Doty). Frank was Stella's second husband. He was a Private 1st Class in the Illinois 2nd Trench Motar Battery CAC (per cemetery records). --- Note: Frank's younger brother Bernard J. Hurst died in World War I, in France. (Stella's brother Fred Ketchum, is on the left). ------------------------------- The following obituary for Frank Hurst was published in the "Niles Daily Star" newspaper, in Niles, Michigan on March 6, 1939, page 2: -------- Death Takes 3 Buchanan Residents; Military Rites for World War Vet. Frank Hurst, Albert Pletchler and William Mutchler Stricken Over Weekend. Buchanan, March 6. - Frank Hurst, 46, World war veteran, who suffered skull fractures and other injuries when caught in the belt of a buzz saw Friday, died at 2:50 Sunday morning in Pawating hospital, Niles. Mr. Hurst's death was one of three which occurred here over the weekend. [etc. regarding Albert W. Pletcher, and William Mutchler]. Mr. Hurst's death occurred two days after he was injured while working on the buzz saw at the farm of Otto Sibert, south of Buchanan. Born in Indiana. He was born in Owenburg [Oldenburg], [Franklin County] Ind., Dec. 12, 1892. He came to Buchanan 17 years ago [in 1922, age 30]. Funeral services will be Wednesday afternoon at 3 in the Swem funeral home. The Rev. R. C. Puffer will officiate and a full military service will be in charge of the American Legion. Burial will be in the Veteran's circle at Oak Ridge cemetery. Surviving are his widow, Ella [Stella] Doty - Hurst; a step-daughter, Mrs. Frank [Evelyn] Trapp; three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Stang, and Mrs. Tilly Young, of Owenburg [Oldenburg], Mrs. Herman [Mary] Hess, Batesville; and four brothers, George, Peter and Henry of Owenburg [Oldenburg], and Joseph, of Cincinnati.
