Franklin E. Mansfield was born Dec. 30, 1851, in Lowell, Mass., and when nine years old came with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank (Bagley) Mansfield to Jefferson county, Wisconsin, where they lived many years. He was married Feb. 21, 1876, to Miss Mary Jane MacDonald, at Johnson's Creek, Wisconsin, they have celebrated their sixty-fourth wedding anniversary this last February. In 1887, Mr. and Mrs. Mansfield drove with a team of horses to Minnesota, settling at Swan River, where Mr. Mansfield farmed until 1910. He then went to Hamilton, Mont., living there a couple years, then coming to Hill county and homesteading south of Fresno. There the Mansfields lived 12 years, moving to Highland park addition at that time. In addition to his wife, three of seven children born to Mr. and Mrs. Mansfield survive him: Mrs. Jeannette Holsapple, Havre; Mrs. A.Y. Haglund, Bismarck, N.D.; and W.E. Mansfield, Santa Monica, Calif. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. H.H. Walters of St. Paul, Minn. Mr. Mansfield died April 20 after a short illness, culminating some years of failing health. His illness had been augmented by the serious illness of his wife, who had broken a hip about three weeks previously. Mrs. Mansfield is reported to be improving. During his years in Minnesota Mr. Mansfield served as county commissioner in Little Falls, Minn. He had also operated a livery stable at Saux Rapids, Minn. He had until his last illness maintained a keen interest in life; he had talent for writing verse, and was a good checker player; and a man who had drawn to himself a great many friends. The church Tuesday was filled with friends and relatives, many of whom had come from a long distance.
