Mansfield, 85, of Highland Park, died at a local hospital at 3:45 a.m. Wednesday morning after an illness of nearly seven months duration. Mrs. Mansfield fell on March 28, breaking a hip, and has been the hospital ever since, with the exception of one month during the summer spent with her daughter, Mrs. Jeannette Holsapple. Death was due to complications following the accident. Her husband, Franklin Mansfield, preceded her in death five months ago, his death being caused chiefly by worry over her condition. Mr. and Mrs. Mansfield had celebrated their sixty-fourth wedding anniversary Feb. 21. Funeral services will be held at St. Jude Thaddeus Church at 8 o'clock Friday morning. The body will be laid to rest by the side of her husband in Calvary cemetery. Mary Jane Mansfield, daughter of Patrick and Honora (Moran) McDonald, was born Sept. 2, 1855, at Johnson Creek, Jefferson county, Wisconsin. She was married Feb. 21, 1876, to Franklin Mansfield at Johnson Creek. In 1887 Mr. and Mrs. Mansfield drove with a team of horses to Minnesota, settling at Swan River, where they farmed until 1910. They then came to Montana, first living at Hamilton in the Bitter Root valley for a couple years, then coming to Hill county and settling on a homestead south of Fresno. After living there 12 years they moved to Highland Park, making that their home, with the exception of winter periods when visiting children. Of the seven children born to Mr. and Mrs. Mansfield, four preceded them in death. Surviving children are Mrs. Jeannette Holsapple of Highland Park, Mrs. Arthur R. Haglund of Bismarck, N.D., and Walter E. Mansfield of Santa Monica, Calif.; 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Mrs. Mansfield was a lifelong Catholic. She was known far and wide for her hospitality. No beggar was ever turned away hungry, say her daughters. Her hospitality and her instinct to do something for somebody remained in her even in her final illness. She insisted on trying to entertain the nurses, relieve them of their work, or make a visit pleasant for her friends.
