[Traer Star Clipper 29 Apr 1904] Frank was the first of 11 children born to John and Frances on their farm in Section 20, Carroll Twp., Tama Co., Ia. Here he attended a rural elementary school and grew to manhood. On April 25, 1904, he was married to Agnes Benda in Holy Trinity Church by the Rev. Father Aloysius Kolar. Agnes was born March 19, 1885, on the Otter Creek Twp. farm of her parents, John and Frances (Marek) Benda, one of four daughters, and attended the local rural elementary school. After their marriage, Frank and Agnes purchased a farm in Howard Twp., Tama Co., where two daughters were born, Felicia and Blanche. Soon Agnes became ill with tuberculosis, was treated for almost a year in a Cedar Rapids, Ia., hospital, and also spent some time in Los Angeles, Cal., with her sister, Emma, hoping the climate might be beneficial. She died at her Howard Twp. home on December 21, 1909 at age 24, and the funeral was held on Christmas Day at St. Wenceslaus Church with Rev. Father Joseph Gregor officiating. After her death Frank sold his farm, and Felicia and Blanche, ages 4 and 2, went to live with their grandparents, John and Frances Benda, of Clutier. Later Frank purchased a farm in Eagle Twp., Black Hawk Co., Ia., which his brother, Joe, helped operate. Frank died at the age of 39 on May 29, 1918, at the home of his sister, Agnes Vorba, after suffering nearly a year from tuberculosis. After services at the Vorba home, the funeral and burial was at St. Wenceslaus Church near Clutier, Ia., on June 1. - by Mike Rudbeck -
