MINO ZIMMERMAN 1888-1944 Funeral services for Mrs. Mino Zimmerman of Olin were held on Saturday, April 8, from Loder's Funeral Home in Anamosa at 1:30 p.m. and from St. John's Lutheran church in Olin with the Rev. A. E. Sommer officiating. Interment was made in Zion Lutheran cemetery at Wayne. At the church Mrs. Leonard Hartwig, accompanied by Mrs. Rasmussen, sang two hymns, "Take Thou My Hand, Dear Father," and "Let Me Go." There were many floral offerings in addition to a memorial wreath from the Lutheran Ladies Aid of which the deceased was a member. The casket bearers were Thomas Hansen, Chester Sarby, Vernon Woodard, Hubert Shankland, Al Thumma and Sam Tarbox. The following obituary was read by the Rev. A. E. Sommer at the service: "Mrs. Sophia Dirks Zimmerman, daughter of Dietrich and Grace Dirks, was born January 4, 1888, near Langworthy. On March 10, 1888 she was baptized. Her early childhood was spent in the community where she was born and she received her elementary education. She was admitted into communicant membership at Zion Lutheran church, Wayne township on March 23, 1902. She was United in marriage with Mino Zimmerman on October 24, 1907 by Pastor Mardorf. After marriage the Zimmermans made their home on a farm near Center Junction. Most of their children were born there. Following one year spent near Martelle the family moved to the present homestead north of Olin where they lived for 22 years. A little over a year ago due to her failing health, the family moved to a home near the Newport bridge. Mrs. Zimmerman's health had not been good, for some time. She suffered an accident and passed away on Thursday, April 6. She had reached the age of 56 years,3 months and 2 days. She is survived by her husband, Mino and 11 children. The six daughters are Mrs. L. M. Frankfort and Mrs. Harold Houstman, twins,, both of Anamosa; Mrs. Marion Byers of Olin; Mrs. Bud Soper of Anamosa; Mrs. Richard Luck of Oelwein, and Elnora, the youngest, at home. The five sons are Louis of Clarence; August and Minehart of Olin; George of the merchant marine,somewhere at sea, and John at home. Also surviving are three sisters and three brothers, Mrs. Gerd Dirks of Langworthy; Mrs. Will Dirks of Amber; Mrs. Will Oltman of Anamosa; John Dirks of Amber; Henry Dirks of Anamosa, and Gerd Dirks of Wyoming. In addition there are 13 grandchildren. Two sisters and a brother preceded her in death.
