Patton, a Veteran in the Employ of the Burlington, Dies at His Home Last Evening. From Tuesday's Daily. Last evening as the shades of night fell over the city, another of the old pioneer residents of Plattsmouth joined the ranks of the countless thousands who have taken up their journey on the unseen road, as the death messenger claimed the spirit of G. M. Patton, who since 1868 has been a resident of this city. Mr. Patton was one of the veteran employes of the Burlington railroad in this city, having entered the service of that company some thirty-three years ago, and during all those years had been a faithful and trusted employee until the porgress (sic) of his malady made it necessary for him to abandon his duties and since that time he had lived quietly at home, awaiting the summons of the Master from his suffering and sickness. He was afflicted with dropsy some years ago and his condition had steadily grown worse until death mercifully released him. The death of the kindly old gentleman, who had passed his seventieth milestone last April, will cause a feeling of deep regret among the many friends with whom he had been associated during his long residence here .... Besides the widow there are the following children to mourn the loss of the father: L. L. Patton, L. M. Patton, Omaha; Mrs. Inez Thompson, Plattsmouth. One brother, R. H. Patton, of this city, and three sisters, Mrs. W. B. Roberts, Ashland, Neb.; Mrs. Jennie Brooks, Walla Walla, Washington; Mrs. Allie Bell, Brownwood, Texas, are left to share the grief of the taking away of their beloved brother. The funeral services of Mr. Patton were held this afternoon at 2 o'clock from the late home, owing to the fact that it was thought best not to delay the interment on account of the long illness which had preceded the death. Services were short and simple and were attended by a large number of the employes of the Burlington shops, while the pallbearers were selected from the employes of the paint shop, where Mr. Patton has been so long employed. -------- The Plattsmouth Semi-Weekly Journal, Thursday, August 20, 1914, pg 2 THE FUNDEAL (sic) OF THE LATE G. M. PATTON TUESDAY AFTERNOON The funeral of the late G. M. Patton was held yesterday afternoon at the home in the south part of the city .... A. G. Hollowell of the Christian church of this city and the minister, in his few remarks, paid a glowing tribute to the departed in his life work and spoke words of comfort to the sorrowing family. The body was borne to its last earthly resting place in Oak Hill cemetery by the pall-bearers, selected from among the members of the I. O. O.
