Cascade Man Pioneer Settler in Montana, Coming to Virginia City in 1864 After an illness extending quite a period, during the last 10 days of which he had been a patient in the Deaconess hospital in this city, George H. Woods, a well known resident of Cascade and justice of the peace of Cascade township, died about 10 last night. Mr. Woods was 58 years of age and had been a resident of Montana during the greater part of his life. He was born in St. Joseph, Mo., and when 7 years of age came over the plains by wagon to Virginia City, Mont., arriving there in 1864. The following year he removed to Helena where he remained until 15 years ago when he engaged in ranching near Hardy. He followed that occupation until about three years ago when he took up his residence in Cascade and took the office of justice of peace of that township which office he held until the time of his death. Mr. Woods was a charter member of Montana lodge No. 1, I.O.O.F. of Helena, the first lodge of Odd Fellows to be formed in the territory, and he was also a charter member of the Order of Deer at Cascade. He is survived by his wife, three brothers, Edwin of Missoula; William of Lewistown and Allen of Hardy; and two sisters, Mrs. Harry Neaphas of Corvallis, Mont., and Mrs. Laura Thorpe of St. Louis.
