Born Jan. 20, 1924 in Jewett he was a son of the late Melvin Shultz and Sarah Thompson Shultz. He graduated from Jewett High School in 1942 and attended The Ohio State University. Shultz age 88, of Jewett died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012 at Harrison Community Hospital, Cadiz after a lengthy illness. Born Jan. 20, 1924 in Jewett he was a son of the late Melvin Shultz and Sarah Thompson Shultz. He graduated from Jewett High School in 1942 and attended The Ohio State University. He left college to enlist in the Army during World War II where he served with grave registration for 32 months. After returning from the war he worked for Thompson Construction in Jewett for five years, Scio Pottery for 10 years, Becker Construction in Wintersville for 22 years and retired in 1989 from Indian Creek School District after five years of service. George was a member of the Jewett United Presbyterian Church where he is currently their oldest member and the George A. Custer VFW Post 3072 of Jewett. He was a former member of the Jewett VFD and Jewett Ruritan's. He enjoyed fishing and raising roses. Surviving are his son, George (Kathy) Shultz, Jr. of Martins Ferry; stepson, Raymond (Mary Ellen) Patterson of Mogadore; and stepdaughter, Janet Rinkes of Carrollton; grandsons, Scott (Lisa) Shultz of Hopedale, Chris (Diane) Shultz of Wintersville and Preston (Janet) Shultz of Weirton; great-grandchildren, Shannon, Derek, Brooke, Abbey, Connor, and Kyle. He was preceded in death by his wife. Mary Margaret Duvall Shultz; a sister, Juanita Caldwell; and a brother, Melvin Dean Shultz. Services will be held Thursday at 4 p.m. in Koch Funeral Home, Scio with Rev Mark Statler officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
