Description	:	George Victor Overton, known as Victor Overton, was born July 6, 1918, on a farm near Walnut, Iowa, to the late George A. and Verna Overton. His early years were spent on farms in the Walnut, Hancock, and Oakland, Iowa areas where he attended one-room country schools through the eighth grade. He attended high school in Oakland, graduating in 1936. After high school, he went to work as a printer in the weekly newspaper at Oakland. Read More	George Victor Overton, known as Victor Overton, was born July 6, 1918, on a farm near Walnut, Iowa, to the late George A. and Verna Overton. His early years were spent on farms in the Walnut, Hancock, and Oakland, Iowa areas where he attended one-room country schools through the eighth grade. He attended high school in Oakland, graduating in 1936. After high school, he went to work as a printer in the weekly newspaper at Oakland. He followed the printing trade until his retirement, except for the time he spent in the army. He was working for a Harlan, Iowa, newspaper when he entered the Army in 1942 and served in the Army Engineers for 38 months, spending 31 months in Africa and Italy. He returned to his job in Harlan after the war and married Yvonne Scheffler in 1949. They lived in Harlan until 1951 and then moved to Mapleton, Iowa, where he worked until 1953 when he came to Council Bluffs to work in the composing room of The Daily Nonpareil. Mr. Overton worked for The Nonpareil for 30 years, the last 11 as composing room foreman. He retired in 1983. Victor and Yvonne had three children, Alan, Donald, and Joyce. Alan suffered from a heart disorder and died in 1971. Yvonne died in 2012. He was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 737, The Fraternal Order of Eagles, and AARP. Survivors include son, Donald Overton and wife, Linda, of Omaha, Neb.; daughter, Joyce Morgan and husband, Jack of Farragut, Iowa; grandson, Matthew Overton, of Omaha; granddaughter, Rachael Schupbach and husband, Brian and great-granddaughter, Claire, of Chicago, Ill.; numerous nieces and nephews. It was Victor's wish to be cremated and there will be no viewing or visitation. Private family inurnment will be in Garner Township Cemetery. Family paid for publishing in the Council Bluffs Iowa Nonpareil 10-12-2017 *****
