Description	:	DEATHS Barnes—George W. Barnes, 70, died at the Hiawatha Community hospital Sunday afternoon, June 14, 1953, at 5 o'clock after a critical illness of several days. He is survived by his wife of the home, 5½ miles north of Hiawatha; his sisters, Mrs. Conrad Rice of Hiawatha, Mrs. Gerald Harkins of Hiawatha, Mrs. Nellie Allen of Lawrence, Kans.; brothers, Claude F. Barnes of Hamilton, Mo., Dr. Harold R. Barnes of Hutchinson, Kans.; several nieces and nephews. He is survived by his wife of the home, 5½ miles north of Hiawatha; his sisters, Mrs. Conrad Rice of Hiawatha, Mrs. Gerald Harkins of Hiawatha, Mrs. Nellie Allen of Lawrence, Kans.; brothers, Claude F. Barnes of Hamilton, Mo., Dr. Harold R. Barnes of Hutchinson, Kans.; several nieces and nephews. Mr. Barnes was a member of all the Masonic orders, the Abdallah Shrine and the Order of the Eastern Star of which he was a past patron. He was also active in the Kiwanis club of Hiawatha and one of the original members of the board of directors for the Hiawatha Community hospital, having served three years. He was a prominent farmer and stockman of northeast Kansas and lived at the farm, 5½ miles north of Hiawatha for 43 years. Much concern for Mr. Barnes had been felt by his relatives and scores of friends after illness struck him while he was spending the past winter in Florida, but he had shown some improvement since his return home and his death was unexpected. Funeral services will be held from the Methodist church of Hiawatha at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, June 16, with Rev. Robert B. Kendall conducting. Interment will be at the Mt.
