Description	:	The funeral of Mr. George Bowers, who died at his home near Brooks Tuesday of last week, was held at the Mt. Zion Church, conducted by Rev. J. K. Driver, pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Villisca, last Thursday afternoon at two o’clock. Mr. Bowers was the father of Mrs. George Lacox and Mrs. Ja. White, and the grandfather of Loyd Bowers of this vicinity, all of whom attended the funeral. Deceased was 83 years, 6 months, and 22 days of age and death was caused by paralysis. Villisca Review, Thursday, March 4, 1909, page 8 In the death of George Bowers Adams County loses one of her oldest citizens and a citizen who was permitted to travel in married relation for over sixty-four years with his wife who survives him, and allotment of time enjoyed by but few. Tho subject of this sketch was born in Davidson County, North Carolina, June l, 1825, and died at his home in Nodaway township at 11:45 a. m., last Tuesday of paralysis of which he had been a sufferer for two years, the past, two weeks being unconscious, aged 83 years, 8 months and 22 days, He was married in Davidson County, North Carolina, November 11, 1844 to Miss Susanna Schuler, who survives him. They continue to reside in Davidson county until 1849 when they moved to near Oxford, Mississippi, where they resided for a short time when they came to Schuylor County, Illinois, where they resided until their removal to to Adams County in April 1866, settling on a farm where the death occured. To this union were born eight children, they being Mrs. H. B. Dorsett of Augusta, Illinois, F. W. Bowers, who died in Nodaway October 28, 1901; Mrs. James White; of Villisca; John H. Bowers, of Nodaway, Mrs. George Lacock of Villisca, Mrs. P. M. McClelland, who died at Nodaway January 5th, 1898; Mrs. F. L. Parcher, of Presho, South Dakota, and George H. Bowers who resides old the old home place. Beside his aged wife and the children, Mr. Bowers leaves thirty-five grandchilren, twenty-three great grandchildren and a large circle friends to mourn his loss. Deceased was a member of the Presbyterian church, and lived a faithful Christian until his death. Funeral services were held at the Mt. Zion Presbyterian church Thursday at 2 o'clock, conducted by J. K. Drivers of Villisca and interment was in Methodist Grove Cemetery.
