Leah Jane Bowers, daughter of George and Susanna Bowers, was born in Schuyler county, Illinois, August 21, 1857. She moved with her parents in a covered wagon to Adams County when she was 6 years of age. She was married October 10, 1883 to George Lacock in Corning and to this union was born a son, Fred Virgil who died in 1905. Mrs. Lacock spent her entire life in the community, living on various farms until 1905, when the Lacks moved to Villisca to make their home. Mr. Lacock preceded his wife in death two years ago. Mrs. Lacock with her husband united with the Advent Christian Church in 1885. Surviving Mrs. Lacock are two brothers and one sister, John Bowers of Nodawy, Harrison Bowers of Villisca, and Mrs. Emma Wilkie of Oakland, California, step daughter, Mrs. A. M. Mitchell of Villisca and four grandchildren, Mrs. Minnie McFarlin of Nodaway, Mrs. Grace Crutchfield of Atlantic, George L. Pierce of Red Oak, and Elson L. Pierce of Villisca. Among those who attended the funeral from a distance were Mrs. Emma Wilkie and Mrs. Louella Herrin of Oakland, California, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Spring and daughter and Mr. and Mrs. Tugle, Brooks, Mrs. Grace Crutchfield and daughter, Atlantic, Mr. and Mrs. Will Eggleston, Gravity, Mr. and MRs. Emory Lacox, Mr. and Mrs. Elver Lacox, Mr. and Mrs. Hult Bowman, Mrs. Amanda Lacox, Mrs. Maple Lacox, Mr. and Mrs. John Bowers, and Mr. and Mrs. Emmet Bowers, Nodaway, Mr. and MRs. Will Barker and Mr. and Mrs. Will McClellan, Corning. Bowers, 27, born in Schuyler County, Illinois to George Bowers and Susanna H. Schuler, residence Nodaway, 1st marriage, married on October 1, 1883 in Corning, Adams County, Iowa by John W. Bixby, Justice of Peace, witnesses were Lyman Parcher and D. C. Penry. Leah J. Bowers was born in 1857 to George Bowers and Susanna H. Schuler. She married George Washington Lacock on October 10, 1883 in Corning, Adams County, Iowa. To them was born one son, Frederick Virgil Lacock. She died in May 1940 and is buried in the Villisca Cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. Artie White attended the funeral for Mrs. Lacox of Villisca. Adams County Free Press, May 23, 1940
