Description	:	Word was received early last week of the death of Mrs. Emma Parcher Wilkie, which occurred at Auburn, California, October 8, 1951. Mrs. Wilie was the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Bowers, pioneer residents of this community, and was 89 years of age. She was born March 30, 1863 in Schuyler, Illinois, coming to this area in 1866, the old homestead being the farm now owned Mr. and Mrs. Mervin Hargan. She was a member of Mt. Read More	Word was received early last week of the death of Mrs. Emma Parcher Wilkie, which occurred at Auburn, California, October 8, 1951. Mrs. Wilie was the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Bowers, pioneer residents of this community, and was 89 years of age. She was born March 30, 1863 in Schuyler, Illinois, coming to this area in 1866, the old homestead being the farm now owned Mr. and Mrs. Mervin Hargan. She was a member of Mt. Zion Presbyterian church in early life. Mrs. Wilkie was a good Christian, of a cheerful disposition, always looking on the bright side of life. She will be sadly missed by many relatives and friends. Funeral services were at the Sutphen Funeral Home in Villisca on Friday with Mrs. Bertha Peters officiating, assisted by Rev. Rowe. Interment was at the Villisca cemetery. Adams County Free Press, October 18, 1951, page 13 Emma Catherine Bowers, daughter of George and Susanna Bowers was born March 30, 1862 in Birmingham, Schuyler, County, Illinois and died October 8, 1951 at the age of 89 years in Highland General Hospital, Auburn, California, following a two day illness. She was the seventh child of a family of eight children, all of whom preceded her in death. At the age of three years, she moved with her family by covered wagon to the vicinity of Brooks, Iowa in her youth she united with the Mt. Zion Presbyterian church. She was married on June 1, 1881 to Lyman J. Parcher and to this union of nearly 50 years were born three children. They were Gail Irene, Virgil Charles, and Mary Elma Luella. Gail Irene and Virgil Charles preceded their mother in death. The husband and father died September 16, 1930. Mrs. Parcher was married in September 1934 to Gabriel Wilkie. He died two years later and since that time, Mrs. Wilkie has spent most of her time with her daughter, Luella Herrin in California. In compliance with her request to be buried by her husband Lyman Parcher, her body was brought back to Villisca by airplane. Besides her daughter, Luella at Keddie, California, she leaves four grandchildren, Winnie March, Nodaway, Iowa, Helen Metcalf, Hill City, South Dakota, Dallas Parcher, Auburn, California, and Faye Bangston, Reno, Nevada. There are also 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Sutphen funeral home in Villisca on Friday afternoon, October 12, conducted by Mrs. Bertha Peters assisted by Rev. C. M. Rowe of Nodaway. The singing was by Emma Jean Shipley and Rosa Briggs, accompanied by Mrs. Stalder. The flowers were cared for by Marybell Baldwin and Mrs. Walter Williams. Pall bearers were Paul Kernen, Russel Carmichael, Paul Rider, Cecil Rhamy, Walter Williams, and Frank Arnott. Burial was in the Villisca Cemetery. Adams County Free Press, October 25, 1951, page 5
