Foster, a prosperous farmer living near Leach, was killed last Friday evening by a chimney falling on him, crushing his body and causing instant death. On Saturday before his home was destroyed by fire, and preparatory to rebuilding, he was digging under the chimney so that it would fall so that the bricks might be more easily removed from the site. Foster causing instant death. G. W. Foster, a prosperous farmer living near Leach, was killed last Friday evening by a chimney falling on him, crushing his body and causing instant death. On Saturday before his home was destroyed by fire, and preparatory to rebuilding, he was digging under the chimney so that it would fall so that the bricks might be more easily removed from the site. Just exactly how the accident happened no one knows for certain, as he was alone when it occurred. His daughter, Mrs Vern Thomsen was in an old house near by, and seeing the chimney fall, rushed to the scene of the accident. She was accompanied by her little brother, Fred. Not finding her father, she called him and received no response, began removing the brick and found him lying beneath a pile of brick, his head and body badly crushed and life extinct. Alarm was given and neighbors rushed to the scene of the terrible tragedy. The body was removed from the rubbish and found to be badly crushed. He fell upon his face and his body was lying about four feet from the base of the chimney. The chimney broke at the fireplace, and it is believed that it was upon him before he realized his danger. Mrs. Foster was at the home of her son-in-law, S.C. Kennon, when the terrible news of her husband's misfortunate reached her. The shock almost prostrated her and grief has been intense. Sheriff Kirk, J. W. Hickman and Priest Kyle reached the County House just as Mrs. Foster was notified of her husband's death. They rushed to the Foster home, where a few neighbors had gathered. The body was removed to the County House, where it was prepared for burial. Mr. Foster was 50 years old and is survived by his wife and 10 children. He was a good citizen, a useful man, a member of the Christian Church and was held in high esteem by everybody. The burial occurred Saturday at Pleasant Hill, Eld, Joe Weatherly Officiating. An Immense crowd was present.
