Along with his brother, Jasper, he joined the Union Army on August 19, 1861 to fight in the Civil War. They were both assigned to Co. C, 18th Regiment, Ohio Infantry. During the war he was wounded on the thumb at or near Chickamague, Tennessee. He was taken prisoner on May 2, 1862, and later released. He was discharged from the Union Army on September 9, 1864 at Lexington, Kentucky. George and Jasper married sisters. |
