Description	:	Full name: John George William Heymann George was the fifth of ten children, and attended the school in his German village. At age 21 he was exempted from military service due to a temporary vocal impediment and a defect in his left knee. One year later, in 1848, George emigrated to the United States with his parents and younger siblings. On October 7, 1851, George married Katharina Mohr, born January 13, 1827. One year later, in 1848, George emigrated to the United States with his parents and younger siblings. On October 7, 1851, George married Katharina Mohr, born January 13, 1827. She was the daughter of Conrad and Marie Clare Henrietta (Scheid) Mohr. They settled near Hunt's Corners and had a son, Charles John, born October 18, 1852. When Katharine died in February, 1854, George returned home to his parents along with his young son. George remarried on March 15, 1855 to Elisabeth Longsheid. They settled in Sherman Twp., Huron Co., where George purchased 130 acres, much of it wooded. A river flowed through the farm, and an old sawmill and dam allowed them to cut lumber to erect a home and barns. In addition to farming, the family also kept a large flock of sheep. Ten children were born to George and Elisabeth. They were joined by Charles John and Elisabeth's orphaned niece. George served as a school director and helped organize the German Evangelical Reformed Zoar congregation at Hunt's Corners, becoming a life-long member. Over the years George continued to enlarge his farm, eventually owning 700 acres of productive and improved farmland. He remained on the farm homestead, engaged in its management, until a few months before his death. According to the family genealogy, "He was a man of strong and intelligent convictions, a pious, God-fearing Christian, a faithful student of the Scriptures with whose history and doctrines he was so familiar that he was perfectly at home with theologically-trained ministers in religious conversations and discussions."
