Description	:	Gerald Clifford Groon, Sr., of Alcester, formerly of Akron, died Wednesday, (Oct. 26, 1988) in Morningside Manor in Alcester of a brief illness. Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Union Creek Lutheran church, rural Akron. The Rev. William Flemr officiated. Audrey Ericson, vocalist, sang, "Amazing Grace" and "What A Friend", accompanied by organist, Ruth Stoutenburg. Burial was in the, church cemetery under direction of Schroeder funeral home in Akron. He married Nina Thayer May 7, 1932 at Elk Point. She died Dec. 21, 1943. He married Betty Wilson Oct. 11, 1944 at Vermillion. He was a lifelong Akron area farmer. The couple retired in 1974 and moved to Alcester in 1983. Survivors include his wife, Betty; four daughters, Mrs. Larry (Janice) Cox and Sandra Groon, both of LaHabra, Calif., Mrs. Ron (Gloria) Siemers and Mrs. Tom (Connie) Tentinger, both of Akron; six sons, Roger of Hemet, Calif, and Edwin of Mission Viejo, Calif., Jerry, Rodney, Kevin and Steve Groon, all of Akron; 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Nina; a son, Duane; a sister, Hannah; and a grand-daughter, Jessie Groon.
