(Nellie) Groon, of Akron, who departed this life at the Lutheran Hospital, Sioux City, June 25, 1962, following a several weeks' illness, aged 70 years, 11 months and 21 days. Nellie Johnson was born in Sioux Valley Township, Union County, S.D., July 4, 1882, the daughter of Jens and Hannah Johnson. On July 4, 1900, she was married to J. Gerhardt Groon in Elk Point, S.D. Together they lived most of their life on the Groon farm in Sioux Valley Township. In 1946 they retired and made their home in Akron. Mr. Groon passed away in April, 1955. Leaving her in departure are: her daughter, Mrs. Hannah Abraham, Sioux City; her son, Clifford of Akron; her sister, Mrs. Hannah Seely, of Akron; 12 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Mrs. Groon was an active member of Union Creek Lutheran Church. She was always known for her friendly, cheerful and kindly personality. Funeral services were held last Thursday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at the Union Creek Lutheran Church, Pastor David J. Roy officiating. Mrs. Margaret Stoutenburg was vocalist and Mrs. Henry Fickbohm was organist. Casket bearers were Emery Powell, Eldon Seely, Archie Powell, Wm. Peterson, Marvin Powell and Max Vreugdenhil.
