Description	:	Gertrude Helen Meenen, daughter of Mr. and Mr. L.D. Meenen of the Riverdale community was born at Clifton, Kansas, August 14, 1899 and departed from this life February 1, 1947, at the age of 47 years, five months and eighteen days. She received her elementary education in the Riverdale school and her high school training at the Clifton Rural High School, graduating in three years as the valedictorian of the class of 1916. Read More	Gertrude Helen Meenen, daughter of Mr. and Mr. L.D. Meenen of the Riverdale community was born at Clifton, Kansas, August 14, 1899 and departed from this life February 1, 1947, at the age of 47 years, five months and eighteen days. She received her elementary education in the Riverdale school and her high school training at the Clifton Rural High School, graduating in three years as the valedictorian of the class of 1916. She followed the teaching profession for many years, and taught her first term at the Dunkel grade school, after which she taught five years at the Riverdale Grade School and about fifteen in the third and fourth grades in the Clifton grade school. During her teaching career she attended the summer sessions at Kansas State College at Manhattan, and at the University of Colorado, at Boulder, Colorado, and received a life certificate for teaching. After retiring from the teaching profession, she assisted her mother in the home. In her youth she attended Sunday School regularly, thus establishing her faith in God. She was a member of the Clifton Presbyterian Aid Society, and also a member of the Amicus club. She worked tirelessly to reach perfection in her endeavors, finding satisfaction only in a task well don. Her sterling qualities won her many friends, and the admiration and love of the many students whom she taught during the more than twenty years in the school room. She leaves to mourn her departure, her father and mother, two sister, Mrs. Charles Clevenger (Anna) and Miss Bertha Meenen of Clifton; three brothers, Fritz H. Meenen of Clay Center, Ludolph and Edward of Clifton; two nieces and three nephews, several uncles and aunts, and other relatives and a host of friends. One sister and one brother preceded her in death, in infancy. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, February 3 at 2:00 c'clock in the Turner chapel in Clifton, with the Rev. H.W. Apel, pastor of the Clifton Presbyterian church officiating. Internment was in the Riverdale cemetery, in the family plot. Taken from the Clifton News February 06, 1947.
