Grace died, at age 16, on Thursday June 5, 1919 in Lawrencetown, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia from accidental drowning. The informant for the death registration was Grace's aunt, Ida M. Patterson. She was the daughter of William Wilson Bent and Anna Belle Patterson. Grace died, at age 16, on Thursday June 5, 1919 in Lawrencetown, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia from accidental drowning. The Bridgetown Weekly Monitor published her obituary in the June 11th edition: LOST HER LIFE WHILE SWIMMING Miss Grace Bent, of Lawrencetown, Drowned in Annapolis River Grace Bent, aged 17 years, daughter of W W Bent, D A R station master at Lawrencetown, was drowned in the Annapolis River at Lawrencetown Park Thursday afternoon. Miss Bent had gone swimming and the accident is believed to have arisen from heart failure caused by the shock of the cold water after the extreme heat. The body was recovered in ten minutes, but life was extinct. Besides her parents, she leaves two brothers Percy, an express agent on the D A R, and Roy, a teacher of telegraphy at the Nova Scotia Technical College. Miss Bent was a member of the Episcopal Church and very popular. The funeral was held from her late home Sunday afternoon and was the largest ever seen in our sister town. The services were conducted by Rev Mr Morris, rector of the parish, assisted by Rev S J Boyce, pastor of the Lawrencetown Methodist Church. The pall bearers were her father, two brothers and Mr J B Jefferson, also four young ladies, Minnie Hall, Jennie Daniels, Jean Palfrey and Ethel Shaffner. The floral tributes were beautiful and had to be conveyed to the Lawrencetown cemetery, where interment took place, in a separate team. The MONITOR extends its deepest sympathy to the bereaved ones.
