He was born Sept. 20, 1924, at Independence to the late Kemper Guy Collins and Sally Agnus Hamption Collins. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, having served as superintendent, teacher and served on several committees. He retired from the U. S. Survivors include his wife, Lorene Hendrix Collins of the home; two sons and spouse, Dennis and Jennifer Collins of Richmond and Jeff Collins of Wytheville; four grandchildren, Brittany Collins, Emily Collins, Rebecca Collins and Tad Collins; sister, Inez Boyer of Independence; brother and wife, Guy and Peggy Collins of Greensboro, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews Funeral services will be held today, Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Independence, Va. The Rev. Darren Brannock and Odell Wright officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery with military rites by Grayson County VFW Post 7726.
