Pleasant she was a daughter of the late James H. Rinkes and Leora Dungan Rinkes. She worked for the former Stroud's Hardware in Scio for many years then around 1966 her and her husband, Mason purchased the store, they continued operating until 1972. Read More	The Times Reporter on Mar. 9, 2012 - Helen Louise Johnston age 90, of Scio, died Thursday, March 8, 2012 in Carriage Inn of Cadiz. Born Nov. 17, 1921 in Mt. Pleasant she was a daughter of the late James H. Rinkes and Leora Dungan Rinkes. She worked for the former Stroud's Hardware in Scio for many years then around 1966 her and her husband, Mason purchased the store, they continued operating until 1972. Prior to Stroud's Hardware she worked at Johnson's Bakery in Scio and Scio Clothing. Helen was very active in the community belonging to the Scio Presbyterian Church and was a former member of the Scio OES #316, Scio American Legion Post 482 Auxiliary and Scio VFD where she was an EMT. She also belonged to the former Grey Ladies who volunteered at area nursing homes and the Harrison County Home. She could always be found the last Thursday of the month peeling potatoes at RJ Spiker Firehall for the monthly roast beef dinners and took great pride in keeping her house clean. Helen devoted her life to her family as a loving mother, grandmother, daughter and sister. She spent many hours as a caregiver for her parents, a brother, James Rinkes and a sister, Virginia Millinger, all who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Mason Johnston in 1995 and a brother, Howard Rinkes. Surviving are sons, William H. (Tina) Phillips of Bowerston and John A. (Lorri) Phillips of Scio; grandchildren, Jenny (Aaron) Fuerst of Worthington, Cory (Kacey) Phillips of Avon, Matthew Phillips (companion, Shawna Kenny) of Pittsburgh, Pa., Steffanie Phillips (fiancé, Jason Parnacott) of Columbus and Staci and Andrew Phillips of Scio; and great-grandsons, Grant and Reed Fuerst. Services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in Koch Funeral Home, Scio with Rev. Jack Visser officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery, Scio. Friends may call Sunday two hours prior to the service from 12-2 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Scio Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 363, Scio 43988.
