In 1885, at the age of 28, he came to America and worked for a farmer near Avoca, Nebraska. On November 17, 1892 he married Alvina Antoinette Margareth Peters, daughter of Peter and Weabke Magdalena (Schomaker) Peters; she was born on a farm between Avoca and Nehawka on September 8, 1868. Read More	BOOK: The Centennial History of Avoca, Nebraska 1882-1982 Henry F. Kehlbeck Family Henry Frederick Kehlbeck was born March 7, 1857 in Hanover, Germany. In 1885, at the age of 28, he came to America and worked for a farmer near Avoca, Nebraska. On November 17, 1892 he married Alvina Antoinette Margareth Peters, daughter of Peter and Weabke Magdalena (Schomaker) Peters; she was born on a farm between Avoca and Nehawka on September 8, 1868. Their only child, Peter Frederick William, was born July 16, 1897, on a farm between Avoca and Nehawka. On January 3, 1898, the Kehlbecks purchased the SW1/4 of Section 22, Township ION, Range 11E from Jacob Schwab. They moved on the farm and by 1905 had completed building the present two story wood home. During these early years Henry transferred cedar seedlings from north of the house, to along the driveway and around the house. The trees have survived and are a well known sight in the community. The Kehlbecks were members of the First Lutheran Church of Avoca (North Branch) and most of their descendants still attend this church. On April 12, 1917, William Kehlbeck married Minnie Sophia Katherian Leefers, daughter of Henry and Margareth Maria (Knickman) Leefers. On November 4, 1918, their only children (Rosie Alvina Mary and Clara Margaret Meta) were born at the farm. Alvina Kehlbeck died March 3, 1934, and the following day Henry deeded the farm to his son William. He lived with his son the rest of his life and died July 1, 1940. They are buried in the North Branch cemetery. On January 24, 1940, Rosie Kehlbeck and Fritz Rohlfs, son of Harry and Nellie (Stubbendick) Rohlfs, and Clara Kehlbeck and Arthur Frederick Eddie Steinhoff, son of William and Magdalena (Buckman) Steinhoff, were married in a double wedding ceremony at First Lutheran Church. Fritz and Rosie Rohlfs settled on the Henry Wohlers farm in Otoe County and Arthur and Clara Steinhoff settled on the Fred Buckman farm. On December 1, 1942, Linda Kay was born to Fritz and Rosie Rohlfs. Arthur and Clara Steinhoff"s daughters Shirley Ann and Cindy were born June 4, 1944, and December 23, 1956. In 1946 William and Minnie Kehlbeck retired and built a brick home in Syracuse where they still live. Fritz and Rosie Rohlfs then moved onto the Kehlbeck farm. Fritz and Rosie Rohlfs retired from farming in 1973 and moved to a home in Syracuse. Fritz Rohlfs passed away on February 5, 1980 and was buried in the North Branch Cemetery. The farm was then rented out until 1975 when William and Minnie Kehlbeck sold the farm to Arthur and Clara Steinhoff. Linda Rohlfs and Lanny Lenker, son of Reed and Bernice Lenker, were married December 20, 1963. They have two children: Gary William born October 8, 1964, and Becky Lynn born August 20, 1968. They live in Omaha. Shirley Steinhoff and Danny Stohlmann, son of Ellsworth and Norma Stohlmann, were married November 15, 1963. They have two children Kim Eileen born July 1, 1965 and Craig Andrew born June 14, 1969. They live on the old August Stohlmann farm near Louisville, Nebraska. Cindy Steinhoff married Kirby R. Drake, son of Arthur and Gwenith Drake, October 7, 1978. They moved into the Kehlbeck home on the farm. The farm has now been in the Kehlbeck family for over 80 years. The present home contains portions that are over 100 years old. The many buildings on the place were built by/for Henry and William Kehlbeck.
