Blanke Sr., son of William and Viola Blanke, was born May 17, 1909, near Ohiowa, Neb. He lived in Geneva continuously since the family moved here during his early childhood. He attended Geneva public schools and graduated with the class of 1927. After graduation, he worked for the Ford Motor Co. in Geneva. After his marriage, he worked at the Geneva Milling Co. for 15 years. Following that time he has owned and operated his own business, known as Blanke Café, in Geneva the past 25 years. During this time Henry was always helping someone less fortunate than himself In 1955 Henry fell, breaking a leg and crushing his hip. Even though he was crippled, he continued to work in his place of business. In April, 1967, he suffered a stroke, after which his health continued to decline. Henry passed away January 4, 1968, following a long hospitalization. He was aged 58 years, 7 months and 18 days. Henry and Fern Cruse were united in marriage June 5, 1930. To this union were born three children, Henry H. Jr., of Lincoln, Janice Fassnacht of Sutton and Jack of Omaha. Survivors include his wife, three children two daughters-in-law, Phyllis and Margaret; one son-in-law, Harley; eight grandchildren, his mother, Mrs. Viola Blanke of Geneva; two sisters, Mrs. Dora Cadwallader and Lula Blanke of Geneva and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted from the Kritner-Farmer funeral home in Geneva at 2 p. m. Saturday, January 6. Rev. Delano Spitzer officiated. Sheldon Johnson sang “No Night There’ and “Beyond the Sunset.” Mrs. Sheldon Johnson was accompanist. Pallbearers were Louis Issler, John Jacobs, Earl Koahler, Willard Mussman, Maurice Nichols and Lawrence Wattles. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery. The Nebraska Signal January 11th, 1968 page 9.
