Description	:	Henry Jacob and John Pendleton Cowger were twins. Henry married Susanna "Sudie" Christina Harper on 18 June 1885 in Pendleton County, West Virginia. Susanna was much taller than Henry. Their first child, John Lester, was born in Moorefield, WV. Henry may have been a deputy sheriff in Elkins, WV, for a while. Henry married Susanna "Sudie" Christina Harper on 18 June 1885 in Pendleton County, West Virginia. Susanna was much taller than Henry. Their first child, John Lester, was born in Moorefield, WV. Henry may have been a deputy sheriff in Elkins, WV, for a while. In 1888 the young family took a train west, ending up in King City, California. A daughter, Bessie Pearl, was born there in 1889. In April 1890 the growing family moved northwest to Salinas to join Susanna's brother, John Michael Harper and his wife, Clara. John ran a grocery in Salinas and Henry replaced John's former partner. A month after the move, Bessie died. In 1891, Henry and Susanna's second daughter, Hazel Dare, arrived. Two years later, John Harper died and his widow, Clara, returned east with her four children. In Feb 1895 Henry and Susanna were living in Pacific Grove, on the California coast, where Henry opened a hardware store. A month later, their second son, Harold "Lefty" Victor Cowger, was born. In July 1897 the family was back in King City where their last child, Winslow Llewellyn Cowger, was born. 1900 census records show the family in West Virginia but by 1906 they were back in California, living in Oakland. Shortly after, they moved to San Jose, then known for its citrus orchards. The family was in Boulder, CO, in 1920 but soon after relocated to Santa Cruz. In 1930, Henry was retired and he and Susanna lived in Palo Alto. Prior to Henry's death at age 90, he and his brother, John, believed themselves the oldest twins in the United States.
