Bean in Charge of Railroad Force, Instantly killed. Special Correspondence of The Evening Star - August 31, 1900 ROCKVILLE, Md. Henry T. Bean of this place was instantly killed about 3 o'clock this afternoon on the viaduct bridge at Relay, Md., by B. O. train No. 501. He was for a number of years a section hand on the metropolitan branch of the B. O. and was only recently made foreman of the "floating gang" on the Washington branch. When struck he was in charge of his men. He was about thirty years of age. His wife and one child survive. his remains were brought to Rockville this evening. TRACK FOREMAN KILLED Struck by the Royal Blue Near the Rely The Evening Times - August 31, 1900 ELKRIDGE, Md. Henry T. Bean track foreman on the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, was killed yesterday afternoon on the viaduct bridge near the Relay by a Royal Blue Limited press. Mr. Bean was what is termed the foreman of the floating gang of trackman, Their duties being to assist the other trackman on the Washington Branch between Relay and Washington. They were engaged in unloading stone ballast from a moving work train. As the work train was crossing the viaduct bridge, at the same time disposing of its stone ballast. it seems that Mr. Bean alight to give some orders, when the Royal Blue struck him. He was badly mangled. The remains were sent to Washington to be prepared for burial. Justice Byrnes, of Baltimore county, viewed the remains, but deemed an inquest unnecessary.
