McDonald, wife of Francis McDonald, of Douglas township, died at the home of her sister, Mrs. Jennie Aylworth, of Wakeeney, Kansas, 7 o'clock Monday evening, Oct. 26, 1891, of tuberculosis. She was the daughter of Hugh and Elizabeth Ruth, and was born in Johnson county, Iowa, Jan. 30, 1862, and came to Madison county with her parents in 1865. McDonald, wife of Francis McDonald, of Douglas township, died at the home of her sister, Mrs. Jennie Aylworth, of Wakeeney, Kansas, 7 o'clock Monday evening, Oct. 26, 1891, of tuberculosis. She was the daughter of Hugh and Elizabeth Ruth, and was born in Johnson county, Iowa, Jan. 30, 1862, and came to Madison county with her parents in 1865. She was married to Francis McDonald December 25, 1882, and was the mother of three children, one of whom, Arbie, an infant, died last April. On account of lung difficulty, and with the hope of benefitting her health, she started west, August 20, with her husband. They went to Excelsior Springs, from there to Las Vegas, N. M., and finally to her sister's home in Kansas. Her remains were brought to the home of her parents near Winterset. The funeral services were held Thursday noon, Oct. 29, at the residence of Robert McDonald. Rev. W. E. Stanley of Winterset officiated. The deceased was a woman of exemplary and earnest christian life. She made a profession of religion early in life, and was baptized into the membership of the Baptist church. A dutiful wife a loving and tender mother, a thoughtful and unselfish sister and daughter, she merited the love and admiration of a large circle of relatives and friends. Her bereaved husband and children, as well as the near relatives, have the heartfelt sympathy of all in their sad affliction. The very large attendance at the funeral services bore eloquent testimony to the high esteem in which she was held by all who knew her. Transcribed as published by Karen Brewer.
