He married 2nd to Mary Katherine Chaffee on Dec 24 1879 in Kansas. ------------------ Obituary of Israel Barkyoumb Israel Barkyoumb was born in North Fairfax in Franklin County, Vermont on April 17 1847 and departed this life from his home in Clay Center Kansas, Sept 22 1929, at the age of 82 years, 5 mos and 5 days. He came to Kansas in 1866, where he homesteaded in Riley County, 5 miles west of Leonardville. On December 24 1879, he was married to Mary Chaffee and to this union were born five children. In 1917, they sold the homestead and moved to Clay Center, but the urge to farm life prompted Mr Barkyoumb to buy a farm in the Deweyville community, where they lived for three years, but failing health forced them to remove to town again. Shortly after coming to Clay Center, Mr Barkyoumb suffered a stroke of paralysis from which he never fully recovered. But through it all he suffered in patience and did not complain. Mr Barkyoumb was a pioneer in Riley county and was among the last of them to depart from this life. He was a quiet home loving man, best content with his family about him. A devoted and true husband and father. His love for the needy is shown in his care of orphan boys of whom he often had a number in his home, awaiting permanent homes. On Christmas Day 1928, Mr and Mrs Barkyoumb observed their golden wedding anniversary. Their children were present, though ill health made the day sad in some some respects. Mr Barkyoumb leaves to mourn his death, his devoted wife and five children, Estella Simpson of Enid Okla., George of Leonardville, Clarence of Clay Center, Sadie Bohnenblust of Longford and Emmet of Clay Center, a brother John Barkyoumb of Bala, a sister Mrs Joseph Labounty of St Albans Vermont, eleven grandchildren and a host of friends. Mr Barkyoumb lived and died in the strength of a vital faith in God. He loved the preaching of truth. The funeral occurred at the family home, 1033 East Lincoln Ave, Tuesday at 2 PM conducted by Wallace Carpenter, a friend of the deceased. Mrs Leda Paul and Mrs Fred Miller sang the hymns he loved and Mrs Carpenter was accompanist. Nephews of the deceased were the pall bearers and interment was in Greenwood cemetery.
