The services at the grave in Maplewood Cemetery were in charge of the I.O.O.F. The pall bearers, who were members of this order, were C. A. Faust, George Krinible, M. C. Reeves, Herman Retschlag, C. A. Tweedy and T. J. Cox. Mr. Hall was born in Edgeworth, near Bolton, England. When a child, he came to America with his mother, five brothers and three sisters, to join his father, who had come the year before. The Family settled into Lowell, Mass., and later moved to Michigan. In 1857, when a young man, Mr. Hall came to Lyon County and settled on a claim near what is now the county farm. Emporia was only a town site at that time, and the land had not been surveyed. He stayed on the farm but a few years, then entered the mercantile business in town. He married Miss Jennie Haworth, and four children were born to them. Mrs. Hall died after the children were grown, and later, Mr. Hall married Miss Ora Whitlow. He continued in business, taking up the sales of piano and musical instruments, in which he engaged until his death. Mr. Hall is survived by his wife, and four children. The children are Ed Hall, of Emporia; Roy Hall, of Chicago; Mrs. J. H. Goodwin, of Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. Albert S. Miller, of Muskogee, Okla. He is also survived by one brother, Samuel Hall, of Emporia.
