On Saturday, April 2, the squadsmen assisted and transported Cecil Bird of Mill Gap, who broke a leg in a fall at his home. Cecil Bird, 95, of Mill Gap died Thursday, April 7, 1977 at Waynesboro Community Hospital. He was born Sept. 18, 1881 at Valley Center (near Mill Gap), son of Charles T. and Melissa Matheny Bird. He attended Monterey Senior Citizens Group and was a charter member of Mill Gap Ruritan Club. He was a retired farmer and a life-long member of Green Hill United Methodist Church. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Ralph B. Swartz of Waynesboro, Miss Annetta Bird of Mill Gap and Mrs. Taylor O. Bird of Cedar Bluff; one son, James C. Bird of Hightown; one sister, Mrs. Clyde Herold of Bridgewater; 12 grandchildren, and nine great - grandchildren. Services were conducted Saturday at Obaugh Funeral Home by the Revs. James Tongue and Willard Gray, burial was in Green Hill Church Cemetery.
