SAD DEATH Death at all times and under all circumstances is sad but there are instances in which the descriptive word seems specially appropriate. It is true in the case of Clarence Bird, the young husband & father who passed quietly away at his home near Valley Center, Tuesday morning about 8 o’clock. He was a victim of the “white plague” & for months his friends & loved ones have watched with hopelessness & helplessness at the rapid inroads of the dreaded malady. A few months ago he sought in vain to arrest the disease by a stay and treatment at the Catawba sanatorium, but with no hope of relief he elected to spend his last days surrounded by his family. Mr. Bird was 42 years of age, a son of Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Bird, and is survived by a wife and eight children, his parents and .several brothers and sisters. Mr. Bird connected himself with the M. E. Church South on the day preceding his death, having previously “put his house in order,” and declared his readiness to go.
