Read More	ALTON EMPIRE, Thursday, September 4, 1913: James Crawford Boland This community was saddened Sunday when the news was given out that James Boland had passed away at his home near this city. Mr. Boland had been in poor health for sometime, and death came as a result of a general breaking own an worn-out system. The deceased has been a resident of Kansas for twenty years, and was a hard working man, a kind, conscientious neighbor and a loyal and generous citizen. A large part of his life had been spent as a sailor, and he had traveled extensively on the water. Death came on the day of his wedding anniversary, and in his eighty-second year of pilgrimage on earth. James Crawford Boland was born near Crawfordsburn county, Ireland, and at the age of sixteen emigrated to America, and remained for a year at Quebec, Canada, later moving to New Orleans, U. S., and from there to Ohio, where he remained about five years. He later moved to Canada again, where he was joined by his parents, and with them, he again moved to the United States, this time settling in Iowa, where he was married to Lizzie Coover Davis, on August 31st, 1868. To this union was born seven children--four boys and three girls. He with his family came to Kansas in 1883, where he has since resided. Funeral services were conducted Monday, September 1st, by Rev. Gray, of the Alton Congregational church, and interment was made in the Alton cemetery. Besides the wife, and a large circle of friends and other relatives, the deceased leaves to mourn their loss, two sons, John E., and Alva; a daughter Emma and two brothers. OSBORNE COUNTY FARMER, Thursday, September 11, 1913: James C. Bolan, a resident of the Alton country since 1883, died at his home August 31, aged 81 years. He had for many years before coming to Osborne county been a sailor. He was a native of Ireland and had lived in Canada, New Orleans and other parts of America before settling on a farm near Alton. In 1868 he was united in marriage with Miss Lizzie Davis, who with two sons and one daughter survives him. The children are John E. and Alva Boland and Miss Emma Boland. The funeral was held September 1st, conducted by Rev.
