Iowa Marriage Records and one census record list his given name as "James," whereas one marriage record shows him as "Henry." All other such records consistently refer to him as "J.H." James Henry "J.H." Miller was married multiple times, as were all of his wives: 1) In 1904 James wed Minnie Belle (Loomis) Fuller in Clarion, Iowa, and their Iowa Marriage Record noted that this was his "3rd" and her "1st" marriage. He was 49, and she was 34 years old. Public records, however, indicate that Minnie, daughter of John L. and Sarah Vincent Loomis, was the widow of Edwin A. Fuller and mother of three very young children: Velma, Vallie, and Herbert Fuller. The marriage dissolved prior to 1916. When Minnie passed on 24 September 1956 in Sacramento, the California Death Index listed her as Minnie Smith, so she apparently had married again. She was born 28 Feb 1871 in Clarksville, Iowa. 2) Agatha Anna (Strohbehn) (Kracht) Roth became James's bride in 1916. The Iowa Marriage Record showed this as the "3rd" marriage for each. Agatha had been widowed twice so this, indeed, was her third marriage. How many marriages, by this point, for James is uncertain. 3) In 1926, a bit over a year after Agatha passed, 71-year-old James married Emma A. (Moore) Patterson who was 56-years-old and was the widow of railroad laborer Bradley Parker Patterson. The Pattersons seemingly did not have issue. Curiously, Emma was described as "divorced" on the 1925 Iowa Census but with the surname of Patterson. The 1926 Iowa Marriage record listed the bride's marriage to J.H. Miller as her "3rd" and her parents as George Washington Moore and Martha Martin Moore. Emma was born 25 June 1867 in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, and died 04 October 1950, probably in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Her burial site was not discovered. NOTE: Notwithstanding all the above mentioned public marriage records, no wives that James may have had prior to Minnie (Loomis) (Fuller) (Miller) Smith have been discovered to date, November 2017. Occupationally, J.H. Miller was consistently classified as an "engineer" or "railroad engineer."
