Chelan Mirror James Hubert Hallock USN James "Jim" Hubert Hallock passed away Jan. 15, 2009 at Loveland, Colo., while visiting his son Joseph. Jim was born Feb. 18, 1932 in Chelan, Wash, in a house near the bridge over the Chelan River.. He was preceded in death by his Parents Lillian Christina (Fredrickson) and Victor Abel E. Hallock; his four siblings Roy F. Hallock, Marie C. Bryant, Daniel R. Hallock and Leslie V. Hallock; and wife E. Hart. He is survived by three children James P. and Joseph P. of Colorado and LJ Griffin and nine grandchildren. Jim grew up in Chelan and learned the apple farming business from his father and brothers. He learned to drive truck at age 13 and while attending school there he drove for the Hallock Trucking Company until he joined the Navy. Jim served during the Korean War in the Pacific on the USS Tortuga and USS Estes. He was honorably discharged and then attended college for two years in California for horticulture. When he returned home to Chelan he tended bar for a short time, until he married Elizabeth E. Hart in February 1958 at Lakeside. He worked in the lumber mill, for the City of Chelan and various other jobs including the Tri-Cities area. In 1965 he moved from Chelan to the Montesano area and worked for the Simpson Lumber Company for four years. From the peninsula he moved his family to Montana, influenced by the economy and the stories of his parents homesteading Fergus Co., Mont. in the early 1900s. For the next eight years he drove truck for the construction of the interstate system throughout the state of Montana, while home based in Manhattan. During this time he joined the Masonic Lodge which became a strong influence in his life, both personally and socially. In 1978 Jim relocated his family back to Chelan, where Elizabeth and Joseph lived for the next few years while Jim was a warehouse foreman for the Nuclear Plant on the coast. After a year of commuting, he divorced his wife, Elizabeth, and returned to the Manhattan/Belgrade, Mont., where he maintained a residence until his death. Jim was a lover of the outdoors; hunting birds, ducks, deer, elk and fish the rivers and streams. Most of his life he had a dog trained from a puppy to hunt. Jim's intelligence, loving nature and sense of humor enriched his life wherever he lived. His strength and vital spirit is greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him. We miss you Dad. Graveside services will be held June 26 at the Riverside Cemetery in Chelan, 10 a.m. and will include military honors. If desired memorials may be made to the Masonic Lodge in Manhattan, Mont. Jim died of Multiple Myloma which was caused by his exposure to nuclear testing residue on the ship he was on in the Navy. The VA denied this.
