Description	:	James McClelland RITNOUR James McClelland Ritnour, pioneer citizen of Adams County, residing south of Higland, died at his home, Monday, the cause of death being a heart attack. He had been in poor health for over a year and has been in a serious condition for approximately five weeks. Read More	James McClelland RITNOUR James McClelland Ritnour, pioneer citizen of Adams County, residing south of Higland, died at his home, Monday, the cause of death being a heart attack. He had been in poor health for over a year and has been in a serious condition for approximately five weeks. Mr. Ritnour was born October 19, 1864, at Pittsburg, Pennsylvania and at the time of his death was aged 78 years and 26 days. He was the son of Margaret and George W. Ritnour. Mr. Ritnour came to Adams County when he was 19 years old and has spent most of his life in the Nodaway vicinity, where he has followed the occupation of farming. On February 6, 1853, he was married at Lincoln Center, in Adams County, Iowa to Alma B. Strait. Surviving children of this union are, Richard A. Ritnour, Rosa M. Linker, and Homer J. Ritnour, all of Nodaway. Deceased children are Mary, Martha, and Lester, who died in infancy. Other surviving relatives in addition to his wife and children, are five sisters, Mrs. Sadie Bloom and Mrs. Ellen Graham of Nodaway; Mrs. Susie Bellin of Medford, Oklahoma; Mrs. Minnie McLaughlin of Wisconsin. He is also survived by two brothers, J.C. Ritnour of Villisca and George Ritnour of Des Moines; Also by eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He has been a member of the Advent Christian Church for 52 years. Funeral services were held from the Highland Church, west of Corning, at two o'clock, Wednesday afternoon, November 17. Services were in charge of Rev. Wesley H. Carter of Council Bluffs. Interment was made in the Nodaway Cemetery. Pallbearers were Edgar Bloom, Forest Bloom, Floyd Ritnour, Lester Strait, Willis Dean and Ferroll Ritnour. Adams County Free Press, November 25, 1943, page 6
